American Work Adventures (AWA) is a U.S. Department of State-designated BridgeUSA sponsor of the J-1 Summer Work Travel (SWT) exchange visitor program. We connect eligible international university students with vetted host employers across the United States for temporary, seasonal employment during their academic summer break, creating cultural exchange experiences that benefit exchange visitors, host employers, and the communities they work in.

We operate in full compliance with 22 CFR Part 62 and all applicable U.S. Department of State Exchange Visitor Program regulations, in support of the broader BridgeUSA mission of fostering mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries through educational and cultural exchange.

Our mission is simple: give international students a summer they'll never forget, and give American employers and communities the chance to know them. Every exchange visitor we sponsor should feel safe, supported, and genuinely welcomed. When that happens, everyone wins: students go home with new skills and lifelong friendships, employers gain motivated seasonal staff, and communities grow a little more connected to the world.

We serve three audiences: exchange visitors, host employers, and overseas partner agencies. Our work spans every stage of the BridgeUSA Exchange Visitor Program.

  • Screen and select eligible international university students through documented interviews and English proficiency verification
  • Issue DS-2019 Certificates of Eligibility for Exchange Visitor Status as a designated BridgeUSA sponsor
  • Vet and onboard qualified host employers who provide seasonal employment and compliant housing
  • Provide pre-departure orientation, including the DoS BridgeUSA SWT Participant Letter and Program Brochure
  • Monitor exchange visitor arrivals, address changes, and employment throughout the program
  • Maintain monthly personal contact with all active exchange visitors, as required by U.S. Department of State regulation
  • Provide 24/7 emergency support throughout the program season
  • Facilitate cultural exchange activities and community engagement opportunities

Exchange visitor health, safety, and program integrity are at the core of everything we do. We work closely with our overseas partner agencies, host employers, and exchange visitors to ensure the BridgeUSA program is transparent, well-supported, and genuinely enriching for everyone involved.
